After Quartzsite, our next Big Adventure was to head up to see my sister in San Francisco. First we had to get the Rig serviced before hitting the road. There was a small hole in one of the tires and the plugs we tried weren’t holding…
Jordan was a little bummed that we had to buy a used tire, but the old one had been acting up for a while and replacing it was the Safest option.
Penny & I were just Stoked to be getting back on the Road!!! I had never been to California before, even after living in OR for ten+ years, so it was Definitely time to take a Trip. Plus Penny had never seen the Ocean before!!! We were super excited to explore, and Jordan knew all the Secret Spots!!!
First Stop was Chiriaco Summit. There was a memorial near the campsite and a line of old tanks guarded the 14 day spots.
We signed in and stayed the night at the campsite near the summit. I took a twilight walk with Penny and was Amazed at all the beautiful different varieties of Cacti!!!
Some of them reminded me of something straight out of a Dr. Seuss book!!! The sunset here was Incredible!!! So many vibrant colors!!!
The next day we headed up and around the outside of LA. I Loved the look of all the windmills in the valley!!! I can’t imagine what Don Quixote would think of these modern versions!!!
A little further north we visited Rincon Pt. & some surf spots that Jordan knew from previous travels. We ventured thru a tunnel and emerged on the beach where we introduced Penny to the Pacific Ocean!!! She wasn’t a fan of the water or waves, but I think it might’ve been a little too cold for her… 🥶💦🐶
We traveled on a bit further and stopped for a cute lunchtime picnic at a butterfly park. 💙🦋💙 How romantic!!! I Love that Jordan has all these Awesome places to share with me!!!
We stayed the night at a hidden pullover off the highway. We must’ve run over something back there because shortly after arriving, one of the tires (not the one we had just replaced) was hissing air. Thankfully we had AAA, so we just called em up and they came right out and switched us to our spare. They were super quick and had us up and down lickity split!!! ⏰
Early the next morning, I saw a hot-air balloon following us as we made our way to the auto shop. It was mercury retrograde at the time, and I was hoping it wouldn’t effect our travel plans too much. Thankfully every time we had a hiccup, we were able to quickly and easily overcome each incident.
The auto body shop we went to also played a huge part in Helping!!! We were the first ones there that morning, and the employees all came out like a racecar driver’s pit team to fix the Rig’s tire in a flash!!! They even helped us reset the electronic tire pressure sensors with one of their industry tricks!!! It was like the hot air balloon had been foretelling of how easy breezy the experience would be. Car trouble is usually a super stressful thing, but Luckily our traveling had been Blessed by Lady Fortune.
Finally we came to Pismo Beach!!! It’s a cute little coastal town with wooden sidewalks and small bridges covering tributaries off the water. We hung out on the beach for a while before scoping the town for a place to set up and play.
The boardwalk already had someone playing guitar there, so we found a place outside a closed bar caddy corner from two restaurants’ outdoor seating. The restaurant in front of us Loved the music and a couple of the servers and host came to tip us. We had people dancing in the restaurants, streets & intersection, and in their cars as they drove by!!! Pismo Beach turned out to be a really Great Time!!!
With such an Awesome Intro to California, I couldn’t wait to see more!!!
