I took the last week off of work to clear my head
and make some progress on the Collaborative Collection
I’ve been working on with Willmarie Ramos & Rangel Villanueva.
I went to Mundo Telas with Sean and got all the necessary fabrics & supplies.
I then got the patterns traced, cut, and prepped where necessary.
And then we got a tropical storm and the power went out in Puntas…
(There’s a reason why there are menu items named after this occurrence.)
So I packed up the Collection, sewing machine, tools and supplies,
and relocated to Sean’s house.
This was a great solution not only cuz we got to chill
and watch Rick & Morty while I got some work done,
but I also because I got to borrow his iron and board (mine’s broken…),
which was super handy, cuz I did lots of ironing!!!
I made another draft of the jacket because
the arm holes and sleeves needed to be adjusted.
I think it’ll fit alot better now, but we’ll have to wait for the fitting
before I feel comfortable cutting it in the final fabric.
I got the shell of the multi-layer Daisy dress put together.
I may top-stitch it, but want to get it fitting perfectly
(make sure the model’s weight hasn’t fluctuated…)
before I make the outer shell in the sheer…
*
Sheers are especially tricky to work with because of their fine nature…
Dull needles can rip holes in or damage fabric,
machines can suck the material under the presser foot,
or the under-thread can get tangled and make a mess…
I used a tissue paper method to help stabilize the fabric for the machine.
You take some tissue paper,
cut it into strips (make sure it’s relatively straight),
and tape it along the edge of the fabric
(or wherever you’re going to be sewing).
Sew like normal, but through both the sheer and the tissue.
After sewing, CAREFULLY remove the tissue by ripping it away from the seams.
You can see even more tips for working with chiffon and sheers at the Spruce.
(along with lots of other nifty home/food/living stuff!)
*
I also got two zippers in while chillin with the homies!!!
Oh, and I don’t have a zipper foot,
so these were extra fun to get in,
especially with the stretch in the fabrics…
WooooOoooo Zippers!!!
:}
Stillll a lil “not-perfect”…
But after you iron, pin, iron again, and carefully sew each one
two or three times,
there comes a point where you gotta let that OCD go and jus move on…
(Otherwise you’ll get frustrated and scrap the whole project lol)
I got the front of Twiggy darted toWo, but still need to add welt pockets
before sewing the two pieces together.
Progress and pieces of Camila:
At the last fitting we were having a little trouble getting the front flaps to lay right.
They may need to be darted, or we might be able to get away with
pulling the pattern piece tighter into the seam.
Either way, I’d like to wait for the fitting to check it out
before I pin/iron/sew/serge it together…
I got the hem of the skirt for Lulu serged, pinned, ironed, and sewn.
(I love the white with the lil gold accent I used in the serger!!! It’s the little things…)
Also folded, ironed, pinned and sewed the sheer part of the skirt.
Got the top half put together and darted as well.
Again, I wanna check the positioning of the darts
before I go much further with this one…
Better now than when they’re all finished
and I have to take it apart 15 steps to get to the dart.
Or even worse, have to scrap it and start over…
All OCDness aside, jus tryin to be real about it!!!
In-between power surges and relocations,
broken or missing tools,
and a few other frustrations,
I also managed to also get Cleo pretty close to being finished.
I jus gotta check the rouching on the sides,
finish the hems, and we’re good to go!!!
*It’s inside-out in the photos, I wanna save the actual fabric for the Lookbook. So shiney!!!
All-in-all,
I’d say the week was pretty productive.
I got to go to a beach party/bonfire
and watch the eclipse through a welding helmet,
which was pretty rad! ;P
I also got to hang out with the Homies for a bit,
and still be able to take a little time for myself.
Not bad for a “week off”!!!
<3
Ps: Stay tuned for photos of the fitting
&
the Final Product!!!
