Right now it’s the slow season in Rincon,

so I’ve been trying to focus more on the Line.

Now’s the time to really bunker down, go into hermit mode,

and get some work done for myself.

Here are a few simple recons I’ve finished recently!

First up, we’ve got this cute little skirt I made!!!

It used to be a little girl’s dress, but the pattern was so adorable,

I just had to make it into something wearable for myself!!!

I cut the bust part off and grabbed some black elastic.

I used a complimenting stretch lace, wrapped it around the elastic,

and sewed it into the skirt to finish making the waistband.

   Ta-daaa!!!

    Next up:

These crazy-patterned shorts with purple lace and lime green stitching!!!

They used to be pants that I got from Goodwill back in PDX.

I Love the pattern, but it was just a little too much for a pair of pants.

Plus it’s hot af in Puerto Rico!!! So out came the scissors…

To finish them up,  I used some purple lace I had lying around

with lime green thread to give them a pop of color!!!

I used the same techniques on these blue plaid pants

that I got from Forever21 Chicago when I was in High School!!!

I can’t believe they still fit me!!! In fact, they’re actually a little big…

That Puerto Rico heat has got me sweatin’ off all my excess weight!!!

Guess Imma have to eat more cake!!! Oh darn… 😛

Close up. Yaaaaaaay Pom-poms!!!

Annnnd Last but not Least:

Some hand-stitched lace I applied to this gypsy skirt!!!

Originally, it was a bit longer and had a black ruffle added around the bottom.

Again, this being PR, it was just too much…

So I cut the ruffle off, saved it for later, and added this lace

which better compliments the awesome paisley pattern!!!

It’s a circle skirt, plus it has added sections for fullness.

That’s alotta Lace!!!

And it’s all hand-sewn!!!

Side Note:

When working with Lace, it’s important to remember

that Lace has a front side and a back side.

Knowing this, I even double-checked that I had it on

right side out BEFORE I started sewing.

But then I took it to the Plaza de Rincon to work on it during the Art walk…

When I saw it in natural light, I realized that it was on backwards.

Now I was already 1/4 into it,

(which is a lot when you’re hand-sewing 13 YARDS of Lace!!!)

and I knew no layman would be able to tell the difference,

but I WOULD KNOW…

So I took it apart and made sure it was done RIGHT.

Yeah, imma perfectionist…

But I LOVE the way it turned out!!!

Now I’m ready to go dancin’ some Salsa!!!
